Palo santo is spanish for "holy wood", and is a sacred tree that grows in parts of South America. There is a common misconception that we should stop burning Palo Santo altogether due to it being endangered and deforestation. However, only one type of palo santo is endangered and is under government protection. The Palo Santo Reforestation project ensures that Palo Santo is being ethically sourced and reforested. There is no harvesting of palo santo, but recollecting (picking up) of naturally dead palo santo. This is how we sustainably burn Palo Santo :) if we stop buying palo santo, it will all be cut down to make room for something else!
